Mack's Blog Post - Rally for Respect

"One of the most essential goods we all share is the good of public education. Public schools enrich and sustain the common good because they enable everyone to learn, regardless of income or race.  Public school teachers stand tall among us as dedicated public servants, no less crucial to our communities than nurses, first-responders, soldiers and others who give themselves so completely to us every day. Leaving our teachers and schools further diminished will magnify our divisions, and concentrate more power in the hands of fewer people."

A Prayer for Educators

Gracious God, you have given each person gifts to share with the world in order to make it a better, stronger, and more beautiful place. Today we acknowledge those in our community and beyond who are teachers. We are grateful for these women and men who impact our world through their influence on our children. From the time a child enters school learning how to read and that 1 + 1 = 2, to when she takes calculus and physics, a teacher has been with her every step of the way. In addition to these lessons, we acknowledge much of what teachers share goes beyond the classroom and textbook. Thank you for the gifts and compassion you have given teachers and that they in turn share with their students. As parents, grandparents, and neighbors, open our ears to hear the voices of our teachers, soften our hearts to respond to their needs, and renew in us a passion for their work so that they know they are not alone. Draw us together as a community that we may invest in our students, support our teachers, and strengthen our schools. Amen.
